August 2014 Business Meeting

WNCPHC
Quarterly Business Meeting
8/19/2014

Phlocking Location

Our arrangement with Hickory Tavern was to go until the start of NFL and college football, which now has begun. Steve Weams has found a new venue interested in having our club phlockings. This venue, 550 Tavern & Grille (550tavern.com), in the Clarion Inn on Airport Rd, is 5 minutes from our current location and offers a very good “Parrot Head” type menu. It was approved by our members present, so our first Phlocking will be on Thursday, September 4.

T-Shirts

Gail Weams has connected us with Simply T’s to print our new club T-Shirts, Hoodies and Sweatshirts. We will setup a page on our website to see colors, shirt type and order form. We are hoping to have shirts ordered in time for delivery at Weaver-Vegas on Sept 26

Charities & Social

Bruce Metcalf acknowledged current & possible future opportunities for us to “Party with a Purpose”.

Brother Wolf: Opportunities to volunteer for hiking with the dogs waiting for their forever home! This seemed very appealing to those present. More info to follow…

ATCF
Our summer cause, selling wristbands to support the Asheville Tourists Children’s Fund, (ashevilletouristschildrensfund.org). This organization is under the Eblen Charities umbrella, supports local schoolchildren in need with a good pair of shoes (or 2).

Another way to help this cause is to “Join the Cheek Insurance Team” by pledging $1 to the Asheville Tourists Children’s Fund for every game the Tourists win this season. (The average number of victories over the past five seasons is 71.) The pledge will be collected in September at the end of the season. The Tourists have 82 wins as of 8/21/14 with ten regular season games and possible playoff games remaining.

Habitat for Humanity Opportunities

Meals on Wheels – Second collection of pet food later in 2014

Weaver-Vegas

Our “Parrot Head Picnic” at the Reems Creek Wildlife Club, is on Friday, Sept 26. Gates open at 2pm, appetizers (thanks to Margaritaville foods) start around 6pm, with food starting around 6:30. We’ll have hamburgers & hotdogs, so bring chairs, beverage of choice, maybe a small side with a little extra to share. Of course we’ll have music, cornhole and the best bonfire in the Reems Creek Valley.

Christmas Party

Location and date to be determined. A top of the line Margaritaville Concoction Machine will be our main raffle prize for this year’s party 🙂

Steve’s “Iguana Races”

The funds from these races are typically given to Brother Wolf. When this fund reaches $500.00 we will present it to either the Humane Society or Brother Wolf in memory of Bob Metcalf and ask Brenda Walker to be present for the check presentation. We are close to $500.00, so when the opportunity presents itself to hold an iguana race – participate 🙂

Highway Clean-Up

Sandy selected November 8th for our next highway cleanup.

Treasurer’s Report

Gail provided a verbal treasurer’s report as well as a printed excel sheet with fiance details for members to view.
